Our Pastor

Philip (edit).png
Vicar Philip Frank

Philip was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran ChurchMissouri Synod (LCMS) and comes from a long line of LCMS church workers.  His paternal great-great grandfather, Rev. Dr. Carl Frank, served as a pastor and was the first editor of The Lutheran Witness.  His paternal great-grandfather, Rev. Athanasius Frank, served as a pastor.  His paternal grandfather, Rev. Edmund Frank, served as a pastor and then at University Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas as a campus pastor.  His great uncle, Rev. Victor Frank, was both a pastor and a U.S. Army Chaplain.  His great aunt, Victoria Frank, was a Deaconess.  And his maternal grandfather, Rev. Dr. Otto Hintze, served as a missionary in Papua New Guinea for 17 years and then in other various LCMS positions.

After high school, Philip enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps as a military police officer.  He was stationed at Camps Kinser and Foster in Okinawa, Japan, and at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California.  He was fortunate to not be deployed to combat during this time.  He was honorably discharged as a Corporal.

Philip then graduated from Texas A&M University with a history degree and coaching minor.  He met his wife at University Lutheran Chapel in College Station, Texas.  She also graduated from Texas A&M with a wildlife and fisheries sciences degree.  After graduating and getting married, they moved to Logan, Utah so she could pursue a PhD in wildlife biology at Utah State University.

While in Logan, Philip graduated as valedictorian from the fire academy at Bridgerland Applied Technical College and was hired onto the North Logan Fire Department.  He earned many certificates including Firefighter I/II, Wildland Firefighter, Fire Instructor, and Basic/Advanced Emergency Medical Technician.  In Logan, Philip and his wife were very involved with Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Upon graduation, Philip's wife got a job in Uvalde, Texas.  The couple joined Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed being active in that congregation.  Philip became a teacher at Uvalde Classical Academy.  He loved teaching U.S. history, Texas history, world history, world studies, world geography, logic, math, and science for 5th through 12th grade students.  After Philip and his wife welcomed their firstborn, they decided to have Philip be a stay-at-home dad.  They welcomed their second child in Uvalde, too.

Philip's wife then accepted an offer to a position at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas.  Shortly after moving to Alpine, the Frank family joined Redeemer Lutheran Church.  Redeemer, as well as her three sister churches which all shared a pastor, experienced a sudden pastoral vacancy.  At Redeemer, Philip stepped into the role of leading worship services and delivering sermons under the supervision of his future mentor, Rev. Charles Boerger.

Soon after, Redeemer called Philip to become their next pastor, with training to be completed via the distance education Specific Ministry Pastor program at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri.  He accepted this call.  Soon after, the congregation at St. Paul Lutheran in Monahans also called Philip, for him to serve as a dual-congregation sole pastor.  The congregation at Zion Lutheran in Kermit also worships at St. Paul.  Since receiving the call to serve these churches, Philip and his wife have welcomed their third child.

On Aug 23, 2024, Philip was officially assigned as a LCMS Vicar at the congregations of Redeemer in Alpine and St. Paul in Monahans by Concordia Seminary in St. Louis.  On Sep 8, 2024, Philip was installed as a SMP Vicar at both congregations by his mentor.

Philip greatly enjoys his work in and for the Kingdom of God, and he looks forward to whatever God has in store for his ministry.  The Lord always provides in great abundance.  Put your trust in Him.

Soli Deo Gloria!
